Jaclin – Classic Holden-Powered River Cruiser Project

Duck Flat Wooden Boats is pleased to offer Jaclin, a rare and historically interesting Australian-built timber cruiser project awaiting completion.

Believed to have been built in Victoria during the 1960s, Jaclin carries a wealth of period character, including numerous Holden badges and original Holden ignition components. The vessel’s name derives from her original owners, Jack and Lin Sweeney, whose unsigned white boat licence remains with the boat today.

The vessel has an intriguing history, having reportedly served as an amateur Coast Guard vessel at one stage, with period photographs still displayed inside the cabin. There are also references from local boating enthusiasts suggesting photographs of the vessel may exist in the North Haven Coast Guard archives.

Powered originally by a Holden Grey Motor mounted amidships, Jaclin was a remarkably capable performer for her size. Previous owners recall the boat planing quickly and achieving speeds in excess of 30 mph. Following a cooling system incident many years ago which resulted in a cracked engine block, the engine was replaced with another Grey Motor professionally rebuilt by Graham Leslie Specialty Tuning. The rebuilt engine has not yet been commissioned and remains preserved, with No.1 piston still positioned at top dead centre. The starter motor and generator are reported to be in excellent condition.

The hull has been stored dry for more than 15 years, with the paint below the waterline removed prior to storage. Numerous original fittings, hardware components and spare parts accompany the sale, including a new spare propeller shaft supplied with the vessel when purchased.
